Non-Destructive Testing Ostrów Wielkopolski, NDT Testing Ostrów Wielkopolski

NDT Testing Enables

the detection of material discontinuities that may occur in welded joints, castings, forgings, and other industrial products. For this purpose, we can use the currently available types and techniques of testing. Depending on the method used, NDT testing enables the detection of internal or surface discontinuities. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. Detectability plays a key role in non-destructive testing and depends on many factors. A method that gives satisfactory results when testing one product may prove completely useless when inspecting another element.

The choice of the appropriate NDT testing method is always considered individually in relation to the type of product being tested and depends, among other things, on:

– the welding method used
– the grade of the base material
– the type of joint and its dimensions
– the shape of the finished element, surface condition, and access
– the type of heat treatment applied
– the applicable or agreed quality levels
– the expected types of welding discontinuities, their location, and orientation relative to the adopted reference point.

Depending on the class of the structure, which results from its level of responsibility, inspection is carried out using a single testing method or a combination of methods. NDT testing is an excellent tool for quality control of manufactured products.

Visual Testing VT Ostrów Wielkopolski

Visual testing is the most basic and least expensive method of inspecting various types of products, including welded joints. It involves a thorough visual examination of the surface being tested. VT testing is mandatory for all types of structures, welded joints, castings, and forgings. Due to its fast turnaround, low cost, and high effectiveness, it is always performed first. Visual testing can be used to inspect component preparation during the production process, check quality during manufacturing, and examine finished products.

Liquid Penetrant Testing PT Ostrów Wielkopolski

Liquid penetrant testing is used to detect surface welding and material discontinuities. It is most often performed after visual testing. The method is most commonly used to test products made of metal, but it can also be applied to other materials, provided they are inert to the testing agents used and are not highly porous. Due to the specific nature of the method, it can be applied to inspect non-magnetic materials such as aluminum or austenitic steel. It also works excellently for inspecting hard-to-reach elements and components with complex geometries that are difficult to test using MT due to magnetization difficulties.

Magnetic Particle Testing MT Ostrów Wielkopolski

Magnetic particle testing (MT) is used to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities located at a shallow depth when testing ferromagnetic materials. Detecting discontinuities in welded joints and other products inspected using the magnetic method involves inducing a magnetic field within them and detecting local magnetic flux leakage fields that form above the location of defects. In MT testing, a special ferromagnetic powder is used to detect these leakage fields. The magnetic testing method achieves highly effective results in a short time. For this reason, the method is recommended for inspecting non-alloy and low-alloy steels.

Ultrasonic Testing UT Ostrów Wielkopolski

Ultrasonic testing is one of the non-destructive testing methods that enables the detection of internal discontinuities. UT testing involves emitting an ultrasonic wave into the material being tested. The reflected portion of the beam, upon returning to the test probe, is processed and appears as a light pulse on the flaw detector’s screen. UT testing allows for the detection of all material inhomogeneities in the tested elements, such as: cracks, lack of fusion, gas pockets, and inclusions. It works excellently for detecting planar discontinuities. The pulse-echo method is most commonly used for quality control of metal products. Ultrasonic testing is much faster than radiographic testing and can also be successfully used to inspect materials of very large thicknesses. In addition, the ultrasonic beam is completely harmless to the human body.

Radiographic Testing RT Ostrów Wielkopolski

Among all testing methods, radiographic testing holds a significant position, particularly in detecting internal material discontinuities. RT radiographic testing is considered one of the most reliable methods in the non-destructive testing group. Industrial radiography is widely used in practically all manufacturing, operation, and maintenance processes for pressure equipment. It works excellently for inspecting pipelines, but it is also widely used in many industrial sectors for testing welded joints, brazed joints, castings, and forgings. Excellent results are achieved when inspecting elements of small and medium thickness. Testing can be performed on both metals and synthetic materials. An additional advantage of this testing method is the unambiguous interpretation of the results obtained.
